Question 1Marriage entails the composition of submission of either the wife or husband. “There would be no powerful will bending hers in that blind persistence with which men and women believe they have the right to impose a private will upon a fellow-creature,” (Chopin pg. 2). Mrs Mallard had been informed of her husband’s death, but instead of feeling sorrowful, she was overcome by a kind of joy and excitement that is quite the opposite of all wives who get to hear of the death of their husbands. Submission chains one life into another, but after the death of her husband, Mrs Mallard is joyful that she is no longer living under someone’s will and henceforth live to fulfil her desires and will without someone overlooking her thoughts and ideas of life. Marriages bound to submission tend to bar the couple from engaging in their intentions.Question 2Marriage is a joint union of two individuals allowing both to express themselves fully without being undermined by the other person. “But she saw beyond that bitter moment a long procession of years to come that would belong to her absolutely,” (Chopin pg. 2). Years of marriage chained Mrs Mallard from exploring her joys, but due to the death of her husband, she felt free from a life of submission. Marriage should not hinder an individual from engaging in their will, but the couple should share their experiences without overlooking the other person’s joy and happiness. In any marriage, each person should feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and willing to engage in each other’s views and thoughts on life.
