CRITICAL THINKING RESEARCH PAPERThe Islamic religion practiced by Muslims is one of the many religions in the world. Muslims base their beliefs on the Quran and the teaching given by Allah. According to the Quran, the earth and heaven were joined together, and Allah created the earth, heaven, and everything else between them in six days. Adam was created through clay molding, and a mate of his likeliness or nature was made for him. Through Adam and Hawwa, generations and tribes of human beings have occupied the earth.Human beings are considered descendants of the first man who was created unique from anything created. (Ebrahimi 2017) explains that humans are gifted with special abilities such as free will, knowledge, conscience, and a soul. Allah looks at the deeds and hearts of his people and does not judge them based on their wealth or bodies. Muslims are expected to live together as brothers and be equal and just in the treatment of one another so that they can gather grace and favor from Allah.According to (Quran 51:56), the main purpose of Muslims in this world is to worship and serve Allah by following his teachings. The descendants of Adam are made to take an oath to acknowledge the lordship of Allah over their lives. True happiness can only be achieved through worship, and believers are advised against falling for the deception that Satan causes through earthly things such as wealth, gambling, hatred, and enmity. Praying several five times a day is how believers can resist Satan’s temptation.Muslims believe that Allah’s belief is the only source of morality, and a non-believer cannot be morally upright. According to (Masitah, 2020), through the reading and understanding the Holy Quran, a believer can differentiate between right and wrong. Practices such as abortion, alcoholism, suicide, premarital sex, and homosexuality are haram while modest dressing, prayer, justice, and helping the needy is considered moral. Good works should always accompany faith since faith without a sense of morality is considered incomplete. The death of a Muslim does not mark the end of their existence since there is a promise of an eternal home for believers. When a believer dies, their soul is believed to be taken by the two angels of death and put into a waiting state called Barzakh.’ The soul stays in this state until the day of judgment, when it will face eternal condemnation or punishment or enter eternal life. Some Islamic teachings differ from biblical teachings, while others are similar. Some similarities in the creation and the origin of the world include the belief that God and Allah are responsible for creating the earth and everything in it from nothingness. However, the bible in (Genesis 2:2-3) states that after creation, God rested, while in the (Quran 50:38) even after six days of creating, Allah and his angels did not experience tiredness. On another account, the Quran does not explicitly explain or mention the creation of eve, while (Genesis 2:22-24) clearly states that eve was made from the rib taken out of Adam.According to the Bible and the Quran, the human race is descendants of the first man to be created. In both books, humans were created in a special way different from all other creations and given far more important responsibilities. In (Surah 3:144), Muslims believe in the teachings of the prophet Muhammad who is Allah’s messenger to believers, while Christians base their faith on Jesus, whom they believe to be Gods son, as stated in (Luke 4:41).Worshipping, serving, and bringing joy to God are considered the main purpose of life in both Christianity and Islam. (Miner and Ghobary 2014), explains that how humans fulfill their purpose in life through prayer, reading the holy book, and obeying the teachings of God are similar in both religions. How prayer is conducted differs in that Muslims pray at five designated times of the day according to (Surah 11 Hud) while Christians can pray at any time. Both Muslims and Christians believe that the deity is the source of morality and that only he can grant the strength to be moral. The two religions consider immoral activities such as drug abuse, sexual immorality, hatred, and enmity. According to (Abd EL-Rahaman, 2017), there are major differences in the consequences of immorality in these religions. In Islam, one can only escape judgment through positive achievement and self-effort, while in Christianity, God, through his son Jesus takes away the burden of sin from Christians. There is a common belief that there is life after the death of a believer, whether Christian or Muslim. The promise of eternal life after death means that the believer does not perish, but their soul leaves their body and continues to live till the day of judgment. In (Ecclesiastes 12:7) the body goes back to being ash while the spirit goes back to God, while in Islam, the spirit goes into waiting till judgment.
