The Folk Believes and Disease Assessment Paper

Folk Believes and DiseaseSome patients have different cultural perspectives and behaviors about a disease that does not get along with biomedicine. During clinical checkups, physicians and patients may have different perspectives about a disease that ends up misunderstanding during medical consultation (Launer, 2003). The patient may not side with the biomedical model of a doctor since the patient may have cultural beliefs about the illness, which is known as folk illness. For example, Hyper-Tension is one of the folk illnesses in my cultural background. In hypertension health facilities, the patients attended to have a different perspective about the illness related to how their body reacts and other ideas on signs, symptoms, and risks.Individuals believe that hypertension is caused by family misunderstandings which lead to a reaction referred to as ballooning veins. Symptoms of hypertension are flashing lights and dizzy spells, which would burst blood vessels, thus posing a danger of kidney failure. Most doctors do not believe that hypertension results from a stressful lifestyle, but they have to advise the patients to avoid stress. There is a challenge in proposing medication procedures that will follow models of the folk approaches. Before treatment, the physician should negotiate with the patient’s beliefs to develop a satisfying treatment experience.
